Once again another week and another month have rolled by. What's even scarier in many ways is that half of 2008 has already vanished and I'm not even 1/3 of the way through all those things I needed to do. I know that we're now in the heart of the 'silly season' and it's the doldrums for many internet marketers. However, now is the time to be focussed both on getting more links to your site, tarting-up your site's overall look and feel and to think forwards for the next few months.

July is the year's tipping point. From now on we're into marketing's busiest time, with Hallowe'en and Christmas fast approaching. So it's time to begin dusting-off your end of year campaigns, to add more appropriate content so you can link it properly and drive traffic to it. Remember that Internet turn-around is most typically measured in months not weeks. Start your preparations today. Of course, after telling you all to get busy, here is where I go on holiday! I am taking a three-week break to visit my wife in West Africa and, as a result, the eZine is also taking a break and the next issue will be released on July 30th. Have a prosperous few weeks and I'll be back with you shortly.

Is the Search Engine Top Spot Always Best?

All the SEO experts and link marketers and Search Engine positioning experts are always pressing you to try and get your website to the #1 ranking in the search enginges. But is the number one ranking always the best one to have? Find out why lower rankings on the first page of search results can sometimes be better for your business.

If you believe all the marketing hype from SEO experts, Search Engine Placement experts, Internet Marketing experts and various other 'Gurus' then the only way for your business to survive and make it on the web is for you to get #1 rankings in the search engines for as many different keywords and terms as possible.

On the face of it this looks very plausible and seems to be an excellent marketing strategy, especially given that the difference between #1 and #2 rankings in Google's search results can be a three-fold difference in traffic. More traffic = more coversions = more money in your pocket. Or, at least, that's how the internet marketing mantra goes.

But let's take a step back for a minute and ask the really hard question — is more traffic always good? The automatic knee-jerk response to this is almost certainly going to be an emphatic: YES! But is that really the case?

What your really want is qualified traffic. You want visitors coming to your site who are keen and eager for what you are offering or the information you are providing. You want a HUNGRY audience for the product you are promoting or the service you are providing.

What you want is someone who has really sought-out your link and really wants to visit your website. The truth is that most internet surfers are lazy. They input a term into the search engines, get a list of sites back and if they're only just idly curious they will click on the first link presented to them. The point is that many of these people are just generally 'surfing' rather than looking for anything in particular. They are not qualified traffic. Often they will come to your site, scan your text and leave again. They will not click on your links, they will not explore and they almost certainly will not browse what you have to offer.

But if you are linked lower down the search results (#2 or #3 say), then the person who clicks on your link has probably been looking for something specific. Your site has caught their eye and they've come to it specifically, and not just because it was #1. They are keen for the services you are providing and are more likely to click on your ads or to buy your products. This is qualified traffic.

What's Hot in ClickBank

With so much of my focus going on ClickBank and ClickBank associated pages over the past few (and the forthcoming months) I thought that I should add a weekly digest of What's Hot in ClickBank to you, my loyal readers. Each weekend I update the ClickBank feed for my Celtnet ClickBank Marketplace, which then drives the various Free ClickBank search and Ads Code systems I provide. I've also started to perform analyses of the current against the previous ClicBank datafeed releases. Each time ClickBank perform a new release they analyze their sales and other data for that time period and they re-evaluate product rankings on this basis. New products come in, old products fall out of the system and product rankings go up and go down. I will soon be making a full digest of these data available so you can check which products have moved, how the products you are promoting are doing, as well as keeping you informed of any product price changes...

What this isn't is a list of all the top products for the week. Indeed, the top products probably aren't the ones you should promote as there's a lot of competition out there. Rather, what I'm presenting is a digest of the 'hot' mid range products. The ones that are on the up. I also support these product statements with an analysis of what people are searching for on my system. And you have to remember that I annotate all he ClickBank products by hand so my Celtnet ClickBank Search System ClickBank search system is one of the most comprehensive out there, and certainly better that ClickBank's own serach system. It's also the same system that drives my Free ClickBank Search Code, allowing you to put comprehensive ClickBank searches on your site.

The ClickBank database driving this site was updated on Tuesday 1s July 2008 with the inclusion of 147 new products into the ClickBank system. These have been uploaded and annotated into the Celtnet ClickBank Marketplace and are now searchable. All the products have had their images updated and the products in ClickBank's 'top 40' in all categories have had their descriptions and sales text to make them easier for you to sell!

It's obvious that summer has come and that the increasing gas prices are influencing people's dicisions in that weight loss products and how to get a ripped body seem high on everone's minds. The eBooks on how to convert your cars to 'burn water' are also flying off the shelves and a half dozen of these products are now in the top 25 of ClickBank and are also accounting for a good proportion of my sales (see below)

Of the various products promoted in ClickBank, the following have been my top sellers: Top Secret Fat Loss Secret; EZ Auction Cash Machine; Convert Your Car To Burn Water + Gasoline = Double Your Mileage! and Success with NLP - Master your Mind design your Destiny.

Do you Socialize?

I've talked in previous issues of this eZine about making $200 per month by various efforts and then maintaining that process over the long-term. This issue describes a method for doing precisely that with AdSense...

Now, you could repeat the formula I've given over and over again and I guarantee that you will make money. But it does leave you with the 'all the eggs in one basket' problem. If Google changes its rules or decides that it doesn't like your site/sites for whatever reason then your earnings could well disappear.

That's why you need to diversify your efforts... Not only are you adding multiple independent income sources, but you're also insuring yourself against any one of the income sources going south...

Apart from serving ads on your site, here are some great income generation strategies:

Affiliate marketing via your website
Article marketing
Affiliate marketing via on-line classifieds
Product marketing via eMail lists
Selling your own infoproduct
Viral Marketing
Offering a service (design, SEO, PLR etc)
Selling advertising space/services directly
Product reviews and sales
Selling eBooks from your own store

Of course, this is a tiny list compared to what you could do... it's all about getting you thinking. You should also remember that with recent changes to Google's TOS you can now mix Google ads with ads from other networks. Most of my pages have Google Ads, In-text ads, Audio Ads and Amazon ads. I'm also starting to experiment with eBay ads...

They all offer something different and they all bring me steady revenue streams.

 

 

 

Business Tip

Don't Forget your Old Pages/Sites

Ask yourself this question: when was the last time you re-visited some of your older content?

In all likelihood it's been quite some time. We all have web pages and even web sites that haven't been touched in months, if not years. After all the whole ethos of the internet is: new, new, new...

We're all told to add as much new content as possible and to quickly get that content indexed. After all it's how the web works. But, what everyone forgets is that old real estate on the internet is valuable real estate. The longer a website or a page has been around, the more value it accrues simply for having been there a while. Indeed, the age of a website is a factor in Google's PageRank calculations.

So, links from your older sites can be valuable! Even better if you have multiple sites and you can link them together with three-way links so there are no reciprocal links between your sites. It might also be time to look at your old sites and give them an overhaul. A little work on ad placement can improve your click-through ratios three to five fold and even on a small site with not that much traffic this can mean more money in your pocket. Maybe it's time to add a little more content to one of those older sites to bulk it up a bit.

After all, it's internet real estate... maybe you could beef-up the site a little and then flip it (sell it on for a profit). Just because it's old doesn't mean that you don't need to look after it!
