Barrex
A Brythonic God, also known as Barrecis: Supreme
This deity is known from a single inscription found at Carlisle and he may also be the tutelary deity of the Irish Ui Barriche of Leinster. He is equated with Roman Mars and was probably a warrior deity. |

This deity is known from a single dedication found at Carlisle. The inscription reads M(arti) BARRECI IANUARIUS (To Mars Barrex of January).
The equating of Barrex to Mars and the meaning of his name as The Supreme, or The High God (from the proto-Celtic *barro (high point)) is entirely compatible with Barrex being a warrior deity.
It has been postulated that Barrex/Barrecis may occur in Ireland as the tutalary deity of the Ui Bairrche, a Firbolg tribe of Leinster.
From the evidence it would seem that the god Barrex or Barrecis is a warrior deity, a protector of military personnel.
