Bergimus is a continental deity, known from inscriptions at Arco and Brescia, cis-Alpine Gaul (modern Italy). His name is related to the Cymric word brig (high palce or summit). Thus, like Brixianus and Brixia he is a deity of hight palces. Which may explain why, at Brescia he is associated with Brixia. He is probably the patron deity of the city of Bergamo (literally the High City) in Italy.
The name Bergamius can be rendered as 'He of the High Pace' or 'He of the Summit' suggesting a deity that might have dwelt in the numinous space between land and air; a deity of the in-between spaces. Places that were very special in Celtic (and prior Bronze-age) bliefs, as is evidenced by the Celtic celebrations of Halloween (a day that stands between Summer and Winter).
