Hychddwn Hir
A Cymric Mabinogi Hero: Noble Swine, the Tall
Hychddwn Hir is a Cymric (Welsh) hero known from the Mabinogi of Math mab Mathonwy where he is the second son born of Gilfaethwy and Gwydion as punishmnet for their dispoiling of Goewin. The boy is baptized and turned to human form by Math and is named after his original animal shape. |

In the Mabinogi of Math mab Mathonwy Gwydion and Gilfaethwy are punished by their uncle Math mab Mathonwy for Gwydion's complicity in and Gilfaethwy's rape of Math's foot-hlder, Goewin by being turned sequencially into deer, wild pigs and wolves. Hychdwn is the second of the offspring, sired by Gilfaethwy as a wild boar on Gwydion as a woodland sow.
Each time they return to Math a year after they wre turned into beasts and he takes their son and by dint of magic converts him into human form and has him baptized in honour of his animal from. The pig-boy is named Hydchdwn [noble swine] and because of his stature is given the epithet 'Hir" (The Tall). Along with his brothers Hychdwn Hir and Bleiddwn they are called the three great champions of Math's llys.
