Stanna is a goddess known from a two inscriptions found at Périgueux in the Dordogne, France (CIL XIII 00950; 00954) where she is invoked along with the deity, Telo.
Though this etymology is by no means certain, Stanna's name can be derived from the reconstructed proto-Celtic elements" *sta-ne/o-;*stam- (stand) along with the deific particle -n- and the feminine particle -a and can be interpreted as 'The Standing Goddess'. Whether this represents her as a protective deity standing in the face of all opposition or has some other meaning remains unknown.
