Ussia is an hypothetical goddess known from a single partial inscription found at Aix-en-Provence, Bouches-du-Rhône, France, where she is invoked as (Us)sia Rosmer(tae). Her invocation as an aspect of the great healer goddess Rosmerta is interesting and indicates that Ussia was also considered as a healer goddess.
The goddess' name is highly problematic in terms of its interpretation, but it may be related to the reconstructed proto-Celtic element: *wostu- (dwelling) along with the deicitic particle -i- and the feminine ending -a. Thus Ussia is the 'Goddess of the Dwelling'. Her assimilation with Rosmerta would suggest that the dwelling intended here is a hospital. Thus Ussia may represent the healing spirit of such an establishment.
