Welcome to Celtnet 'One Million People' Campaign — Here you will learn more about this campaign, what we're aiming to achieve and what you can do. This, unashamedly, is a drive to try and get more recognition and a little more money for this. It's my aim to make available as many ancient Celtic texts and old recipe books as possible for free on this internet. But for that, I need your help, your donations. I'm going to ask you for 1 of 4 things from you:

Admittedly, this grew out of a personal desire to make ancient Welsh texts available in their original forms, in Modern Welsh versions and English translations. This takes time, but many of the source materials are either very rare or out of print. Indeed some of the books required for this endeavour cost $1000 or more.

As this site grew began adding recipes that fit in with the original Celtic and Medieval focus of the site. I started adding reconstructed Ancient recipes, Ancient Roman Recipes, Medieval Recipes and Elizabethan recipes (all matching the periods of the texts or contents presented on the site. All these linked to the ancient texts presented here:

This is when it became obvious that other ancient and hard to find books were critical for this site, and I chose the following recipe books:

For all this effort I created my own font MabinogiCeltic which is offered for free and which makes typesetting Medieval and Earlier texts possible in good faximilies. This font contains all the cheracters necessary for properly presenting the Ancient Welsh texts as well as Medieval English texts. All this requires considerable effort and software, especially as the font presentation standards keep changing.

It's as a result of this that I came-up with my '1000000 People Campaign'. If I can get just 0.50c from enough people then together we can provide even more texts and more and better ways of presentin those texts (I am currently working on a JavaScript method of embedding fonts into websites so they do not need to be downlaoded).
Why am I doing this? Well, I really want to make those ancient texts available to all, and in as close form to the original as a website will allow. The Gutenberg press made books available to all, but now ancient texts have become the preserve of ancient libraries and available to just a few readers. They really should be available to all.

Why am I asking for only $1 or 50c? Well, I want everyone who comes to this site to want to and to be able to donate. But surely it won't make a difference? I hear you ask. Well... This site gets a minimum o 4000 visitors each and every day. Most people will ignore this appeal, but if only 1 in 10 donate 50c that's $200 a day, $1400 a week. That's enough to source a number of ancient books or to keep the site running for a few more months (and to give me the incentive to work a little harder on making more texts available).

This is the real power of the internet. Each individual only gives a little, but collectively the amount is huge.
