Motorola Razr V3 Disassembly: Part 1

Getting Started

Tools for disassembly

Before you start you will need a few tools, as above. To disassemble the phone you will need two Torx screwdrivers: a T5 and a T6. You will also need a flat plastic implement to prise apart the components of the phone. Anything flat but rigid will do. I used an old SIM card here. It needs to be plastic to ensure that you don't scratch the fascias whilst taking them apart. You will also need a small flat-head screwdriver to ease some of the components apart. In addition you will need a needle or a pin to remove some of the rubber protective components. Once you've assembled all these items the next stage is to begin disassembly.

First we'll start with front and back views of the classic V3 RAZR mobile phone. I know that you'll be familiar with these views already, but I'm placing them here so that you can use them to orient yourselves when going throug the various other images on this site.

Removing the battery case

The first and simplest thing to do is to remove the battery case. Just use the flat-head screwdriver to press the button at the top of this pannel. This will reveal the battery and SIM card inside (as below)

Remove the battery and the SIM card

Once the battery bay is open pop out the battery itself and then slide out the SIM card. But do not use this SIM card to perform the following procedures as they are quite violent and may damage your SIM card.

The easy part of the procedure is now done. To learn how to remove the main fascias, jump to the next part of this course.
