Motorola Razr V3 Disassembly: Part 3

Introduction

In the previous part of this series you learnt about how to disassemble the components at the base of the phone. We now move to the tru nitty-gritty of getting removing the keyboard and the display fascias.

Removing the Keyboard

prise-off backing strip

After the previous part previous part of this series you now have a phone with an emptied back (as above, left). To reveal the clips holding the keypad in place you now have to peel back the plastic cover at the top of the phone. Do this carefully so you can replace this plastic sheet when re-assembling the phone.

With the protective plastic removed the eight metal tags that hold the keypad in place are revealed (above, left). All these need to be carefully bent into the vertical position with your flat-head screwdriver so that the keypad can be eased from the casing.

Removing the battery case

With the metal tags straightened, simply push the tags to release the keypad.

Removing the Screen Housing

We're now onto the most involved part of the entire disassembly process: removing the screen housing.

Ease V3 case open

To remove the screen housing you will first need to pop-off the four rubber bungs located at each corner of the screen. This reveals four T6 screws which you will need to undo with a Torx T6 screwdriver. Once these screws are undone you can begin to undo the housing itself.

Ease V3 case open

The part of the casing you're now attempting to remove is the outer screen casing. To do this insert the plastic tool you have into the little insets on the screen housing. You will notice this inset easily as it's the dimple onthe edge of the casing. Once again freeing this part of the case is more difficult that it might seem and you have to be fairly forceful to work you plastic tool all the way around the casing. This will eventually mean that the outer screen casing pops off, as in the image on the right, above.

Remove contact

Once the screen covering has been loosened it will simply lift off, as above.

Separate phone parts

With the screen removed, the side buttons simply drop out. Make sure you remove them now and place them aside, otherwise you will lose them.

Remove the base

Now you can see the outer screen. At the top there is a connector. Using your flat-head screwdriver pop this off and you're ready to remove the screen itself and the camera.

First, however, we'll take off the hinge bezels. First we'll handle the left-hand bezel. This is held on by a T5 screw which you'll need to undo. You can then use your flat-head screwdriver to ease bezel out. Next use your flat-head screwdriver to ease the right-hand bezel out. And we're almost done.

Remove aerial

It's now time to remove the screen assembly proper. First I use the flat-head screwdriver to remove the misrophone assembly which is located at the base of the housing and which is attached with glue. Once this is removed you can use tweezers or even your fingers to pull the screen assembly out of the housing.

Remove aerial

Note that part of the screen housing is attached to the outside of the housing. Of necessary use your nails (if you have any) or a pair of tweezers to carefully prise these away from the casing. Now you can remove the screen assembly safely.

Remove aerial

When you remove the screen you will be able to flip it backwards but you will seee that it is attached to the camera via a zif (zero insertion force) cable. Simply use a pair of tweezers to remove the camera from its housing and the entire screen and camera assembly will come away cleanly from the case.

You now have complete instructions as to how to dismantle your Motorola RAZR V3 phone. To assemble the phone, simpy go backwards through these instructions!

Return to the beginning of this course.
