Celtnet Flower-based Recipes and Cookery, Home Page

Welcome to Celtnet's Flower-based Recipes Page — Today we tend to only use a very small number of flowers as garnishes for our dishes. However, a large number of flowers are entirely edible (but there are poisonous flowers, make certain of your identification). Indeed, if you serach on the web you will find lists of mover 200 common edible flowers. Many of these will be the flowers of herb plants that can be used in a similar manner to the herbs themselves. Certain flowers such as pea, violet and primrose are edible whole and are often candied or crystallized for cake decoration. For complex flowers such as rose, sunflower and marigold only the petals are typically edible and the pollen can cause allergic reactions. However, a number of flowers are used commonly in cuisines around the world (bissap in Senegal, marigolds in Mexico, squash flowers in South America, to name but a few). Here you will find a list of a whole range of common and not so common flower and flower-based recipes sourced from all across the globe.

For more information on edible flowers, their characteristics and culinary uses see the Guide to Edible Flowers.

Alphabetical list of flower-based recipes follow (limited to 100 recipes per page). There are 293 recipes in total:
